Homecoming (Tillerman Series)

Homecoming (Tillerman Series)

That's the first thing James Tillerman says to his sister Dicey every morning. It's still true that their mother has abandoned the four Tillerman children somewhere in the middle of Connecticut. It's still true they have to find their way, somehow, to Great-aunt Cilla's house in Bridgeport, which may be their only hope of staying together as a family.
But when they get to Bridgeport, they learn that Great-aunt Cilla has died, and the home they find with her daughter, Eunice, isn't the permanent haven they've been searching for. So their journey continues to its unexpected conclusion -- and some surprising discoveries about their history, and their future.

078/365: Pink Hair

This is going to be a long one, but it's worth the read.
I'll start with the inspiration for this-I have a very close friend of mine, Ashley Marionneaux, that was recently "discriminated" against for having one small strip of pink in her hair. She was recently elected to be on the Homecoming court and although she did not win it is a well deserved honor. While running some errands in the school office there were a number of administrators and faculty members present, whom she began having a conversation with (we have a small highschool where I'm from). Basically, the guidance counselor told her to her face that he felt she should've been disqualified from court because of her hair. She defended herself in a respectful way by simply saying that she didn't think it changed who she was. One of the faculty members then stated," i agree, who would think that?" and our PRINCIPAL SAYS, "I do". Note-ashley is in the room. Now, you would think someone of their authority would understand the meaning of having manners or atleast being able to stand up for what your saying instead of shrugging and not saying anything else or to try to say they were joking, but I guess not. I would also like to mention that Ashley is President of the senior class as well as president of the student council as a whole, she is an honor student, she is a member of BETA, and a member of our freshmen mentoring team, she is on yearbook staff as well. So It really pisses me off that the principal of a school could be so ignorant as to think that a pink strip of hair constitutes disqualification from HC court when there were other girls who do not keep even a 2.0 GPA and also do NOTHING productive for the school. To me, that's complete bullshit. I would also like to point out that he openly stated that he did not want someone with pink hair representing his school at some dinner for good students that is coming up later in the year. What's funny, is that he sent this very student (before the hair) to a world affairs seminar, where she represented the school among people from all over the globe. I guess one reason I feel so strongly about this is that Last year when I was a senior, I was in Ashleys shoes. Nothing happened that was controversial, i just mean that I too was the president of student council and various other clubs as well as an honors student. Basically we are/were "that" student. So what I want to ask is, would it have stopped me from being the student i was if i say, had a tattoo? or had pink hair? or maybe even was a little odd and decided to paint my body in all sorts of colors and take a self portrait?. See, I don't think so. When she told me what had happened i was furious, then this idea came to me. I wanted to make myself vulnerable and truly make a statement about this topic. many who know me know that I am not comfortable with taking off my shirt and things like that, i never have been. Idk why, that's just how I am. But I wanted to do this, to truly show that no one is perfect, and no one should be limited to how they express themselves, and that no one should judge others( even though i realize that everyone does and sometimes our tainted moral outlook over powers what we truly believe, im asking to atleast stop and think) , especially if they witness who that person truly is every single day and most likely, without them, would have a much harder job. There is ton more I could say but i've said enough, the photo will speak now. One last shout out to Ashley Marionneaux for not giving a DAMN what people think and being awesome.

Witches Castle

Witches Castle

My day... This photo wasn't taken the day of but we returned a week or so later to do this shoot here at Witches Castle in Portland, OR. According to myth this building behind the two witches was once an old traders out post in the 1700s or 1800s, I'm not sure, but it is supposedly the spot of the first hanging of a witch in Oregon! Last Saturday night was a fucking blast, it included jailbreak, an ouiji board, new friends, ghost hunting and lots of walking and running for long periods of time!

The day started out with me going shopping for Paris's homecoming dress ( the girl with her arm raised ) and getting my shirt and bow tie as well and I decided to just stay at her house the rest of the day and hangout with her and friends. Later on though we got a call from her friend who wanted to play a game called jailbreak which is just a bigger version of cops and robbers but with cars, more people, and a lot bigger boundaries. We played from about roughly 8PM to about 12PM which is really long time to be running around giant boundaries which were somewhere around three or four miles in total distance! At one point my two partners and I were running on a high way away from chasers... not to mention I was wearing boots! Killer on my feet... regardless though it was such a blast and adrenalin rush! Afterwards when most people went home Paris had an idea to take us to this Mormon church that had this area called the labyrinth in this forest on their property which leads down to this open stone area surrounded by trees. It honestly seemed like a really large game board, you had to follow a path for five minutes until you got to the middle and supposedly if you walk straight to the middle something bad would have happened to you. After we followed the path for some time one person goes into the middle at a time and speaks and it sounds like you are two inches away from each side of your head speaking! It was spooky, not to mention some kids brought a ouiji board and that just made it even more interesting! When we were done here most of us hadn't had our fill of creepy things so Paris gave us the idea of going to Witches Castle, which is where this photo takes place. It's about a 40 - 1 hour hike into this forest and it was practically pitch black except for a few small phone lights which hardly helped the darkness of this giant looming forest.

When we finally reached the castle it was pretty freaking' scary at 3AM in the morning, not to mention when we reached the ruins it started pouring down rain! It definitely made everybody uncomfortable. The ruins though were really interesting, there's one room that is completely blocked off by two giant brick walls which we guess would have been the living room... we really want to know, honestly. Don't let me forget, I was supposed to be home by 11:30PM and it was roughly 4AM when we got home... I was in deep shit but it was honestly worth such a great night with new and old friends.

“Everyone, at some point in their lives, wakes up in the middle of the night with the feeling that they are all alone in the world, and that nobody loves them now and that nobody will ever love them, and that they will never have a decent night’s sleep again and will spend their lives wandering blearily around a loveless landscape, hoping desperately that their circumstances will improve, but suspecting in their heart of hearts, that they will remain unloved forever. The best thing to do in these circumstances is to wake someone else up, so that they can feel this way, too.”
